Gerakan Membaca Bersama untuk Meningkatkan Minat Baca Anak Usia Dini di Ndokum Siroga

Abstract
The level of reading interest among children in Ndokum Siroga Village is relatively high, yet efforts are still needed to improve the quality and sustainability of the local literacy culture. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Gerakan Membaca Bersama (Collective Reading Movement) as an innovative strategy to strengthen children’s reading interest in remote areas. This community service program used a participatory action approach involving eight elementary school children in Ndokum Siroga Village, Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The literacy activities were systematically designed in three stages: preparation, implementation, and reflection, with an emphasis on children’s active participation and collaborative learning. Observations and field notes showed that this movement succeeded in increasing the frequency, duration, and quality of reading activities, and boosted children’s motivation and literacy skills. The findings highlight the significance of developing community-based literacy programs in a sustainable manner to enhance the quality of basic education, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This program can also serve as a model for similar literacy initiatives in other regions.
