Abstract

This study aims to design and develop an infrared-sensor-based automatic garage door opener that is economical, reliable, and practical for residential applications. The research addresses the problem of limited efficiency and safety in conventional manual garage door systems by proposing a sensor-driven mechanism capable of detecting vehicle presence and triggering automatic door movement. The methodological approach involves designing integrated hardware and software components, calibrating the infrared sensor for optimal detection accuracy, and conducting performance tests under varying environmental conditions. Measurements focused on detection range, operational consistency, and power consumption. The findings demonstrate that the system responds rapidly and accurately within its optimal range, maintains stable performance across different lighting and weather conditions, and operates with low energy usage. These results indicate that the proposed device offers a functional and efficient solution for modern home automation. The study concludes that the system enhances convenience, strengthens residential security, and contributes to energy-efficient household operations, thereby addressing the initial problem and providing a feasible technological alternative for automated garage door systems.
