Penggunaan Media Counting Box dalam Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Matematika pada Siswa Kelas 2 SD Negeri 101928 Rantau Panjang

Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of mathematical concepts among second-grade students of SD Negeri 101928 Rantau Panjang through the use of the Counting Box media. The background of this research is the low level of students’ comprehension of basic arithmetic operations, such as addition and subtraction, as shown in the pre-action results where only 30% of students achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. The subjects were 30 second-grade students, consisting of 16 boys and 14 girls. Data were collected through mathematical concept comprehension tests, student activity observations, and teacher performance observations. The results indicated an improvement in students’ understanding of mathematical concepts after applying the Counting Box. In the pre-test, the average score was 61,2 with 30% mastery. After the first cycle, the percentage of mastery increased to 76,6%, and in the second cycle it reached 91.6% with an average score of 91,5. Furthermore, students became more active, their learning motivation improved, and teachers were able  to deliver lessons more creatively and systematically.
